YOU: THE GIVING TREE
I always loved Shel Silvertein’s book The Giving Tree as a child. I don’t remember the details of the story, but what I do remember is that as a little girl it opened my eyes and understanding to the concept of love through generosity. I have been spending my week with trainers talking about the difference between being just a trainer and being a personal trainer. After hours of discussion, we all determined that it is the small details that add the personal touch of excellence, it is the small details that makes someone feel loved. What sets great personal trainers apart from average ones is found in the giving nature that great ones bestow upon their clientele.
Douglas M. Lawson once said that “we live temporarily through what we take, but we live forever through what we give,” and I couldn’t agree more.
Generosity can be shown in countless ways, some obvious and some less overtly visible to the eye. What can you do today to do something unexpectedly kind (and giving) to someone else? I challenge you to see yourself as a giving tree, for we all can be that way if we choose to be. In turn, as Lawson stated, we will live forever through our generosity. Be a giving tree today in every way that you can.
