STORM OF MAJESTY.

Jun 30, 2012 by

Last night the skies in Central Virginia were lit up like zigzagging fireworks.  After a day of 101 degree sunshine, the heat finally broke at night into a monumental storm that swept through with the intensity of a roaring train.  I watched the storm with a cup of cinnamon tea on the porch, mesmerized by the intensity that can speak through high winds and swaying trees.   Thankfully, my neighborhood in Ladysmith had minimal damage and only a short-term power outage, but what I learned this morning was that was not the case in other local areas.   Tree damage and power outages are still lurking over most of Fredericksburg, not boding well for a day promising to be another scorcher.

What I enjoyed the most about the storm last night was that it was a safe way to get an inside, external glimpse of how beautiful the storms in our lives actually are when we were able to step outside from a different angle.  We don’t always get to see the beauty of uncontrollable winds from the safety of a porch and a cup of tea, but imagine what life would be like if only we could.

The next time that you are surrounded by a torrential downpour and high winds in your life that you can’t seem to find your way out of, always remember that the storm will pass and that, from the right perspective, the storm itself is a work of beautiful majesty.
